Do you think it would work for Grape Vines?
@karenbytherideau No, not nearly strong enough or large enough for grapes. You will need a much more permanent structure that can support a lot more weight than this can take. Like I said in the video, something like mine is meant for light plants like beans or cucumbers.
I appreciate this idea! It's simple and doesn't involve much strength from a lady 😊❤
Thanks
GREAT video but I disagree with that you called yourself cheep because you like to save money. That is called frugal and SMART. Why put money in the pocket of someone else when you can keep it in your pocket and use it for something that you can't make. thank you !
For anyone else out there that receives ebt snap you can buy edible plants and seeds from places like Walmart with your snap benefits. Hopefully this will make gardening a little more accessible for some more people. I would definitely check with the store before picking out your plants
Thanks for sharing!!
Way too short. I use t-posts. Clothesline rope because it lasts forever. Don't ever have to worry about anything rotting and it's much taller
I mainly use for cucumbers so it really doesn't need to be much taller. I save the t-posts for my tomatoes.
Did you steal the kids soccer net from them?
That wouldn't be a bad idea
Thank you for sharing...Did you cut points at the bottom of the pieces of wood to be able to drive them into the ground?
Yes I did
planted 3 potatoes early spring. a few weeks away from harvest but im excited.
We've got a bunch that will be ready in 3 or 4 weeks and we are super excited too!
Thank you for the recipe
My pleasure 😊
@@StoneyAcresGardening l would like a copy of the recipe please
There is a difference between Theory and Practice. I have (1) spaghetti squash plant and (1) watermelon plant. They are planted next to each other. On the watermelon plant, the melons look normal, like watermelon. On the spaghetti squash plant, all of the squash look normal except one. The one exception has the shape and size of the other squash, but the finish is very similar to the watermelon, dark green with stripes. All of the other squash are, what I would call, a solid white or light green color. Now, I will have to figure out when to harvest it. I'm excited to see what this squatermelon tastes like.
There's no theory involved. Watermelon DO NOT Cross pollinate with squash! Period. Something else is going on with that squash. And cross pollination does not affect the current years fruit, so even if they could cross pollinate you wouldn't see different fruit until next season. So whatever is going on with that one fruit really has nothing to do with the watermelon. I've had spaghetti squash with stripes before, they will likely fade as it ripens.
Those look like mulberries to me.
Nope they are blackberries, the variety is PrimeArk Freedom
Wonderful, informative presentation indeed.
When we were little in Africa we would go hunting for black berries. Good times.
Sounds fun!
How do you prevent birds from eating all of them?
We don't have a big problem with birds on our blackberries. They go after our Strawberries. But the best way is to cover your plants with bird netting. It's a bit of a pain sometimes but it gets the job done.
Tripple Crown?
Prime Ark Freedom
Thank you Rick, looking forward to it.
You are very welcome
What is the best way to wash blackberries to remove bugs and crawlies?
We just give them a rinse with cold water before we eat them.
Nice...lettuce..
Thanks
Really, all that! Personally, I pop one or two in my mouth and taste them, are they ready? If so, then I eat a few more and gather the rest.
Thank you for this!! Super helpful!! And I really appreciated the picture of gardens with the potatoes!! Super helpful!
Thanks Rick appreciate your content
Great list, got some things coming out next week or two & definitely filling in with some of these.
Have fun!
When you say it is still possible to plant icebox watermelons and cucumbers, do you mean from seeds?
Yes by seed, but get it done soon!
Plant pennies around the vegies that snails like to eat and they wont bother your crops.
My garden is a mess i got started late
YES! YES! I'm thrilled to know I can still plant!!
It’s getting difficult to guess when to start fall seedlings with the changes in temperature. Who knows if we will have a normal fall season. I may have started too late at end of June, but I can set up a low tunnel if frost is early. In Z5a I need to have many crops in the ground before august as there is not enough daylight going into fall and affects getting the plants to finish.
Like your 4 foot beds.
Does this include black eyed peas?
Great list. Appreciate you for not putting aggressive titles, such as 'you would be crazy to not plant these crops in ___ month'. to these videos like other big youtube garden channels constantly do.
Yes exactly, it’s an instant turn off for me 😊
I have all my seeds out already and planned to sow seeds this weekend 👍 might need to pick up more beans though, since germination wasn’t great. Oh how I love a good green bean! I’m trying ‘Devil’s Ear’ and a couple other lettuces. They seem to be growing well. Can peas be started indoors? Or is it not worth the trouble?
Honestly there are so many other plants that will do so much better in the fall. I usually skip them.
Could radish seeds be planted in July?
Too hot! Wait until about 6 weeks before your first frost. Right up until frost.
I moved from 8A to 4A so I'm seriously in garden shock. Carrots, patty pan, marigolds sprouted then laid back down. My tomatoes, Meyer lemon tree, grapes peppers ginger went to a kind neighbor whose daughter wanted a food garden. Beautiful little kind girl, it's all yours 🍇 🌶 🍅
I'm so glad I remained subscribed to your e-newsletter, especially since we're so close in proximity. Most of the gardening "gurus" on YT that I've watched are not in our zone, so it's kind of a waste of time to watch their videos about when to plant what. I'm especially glad I watched this video as soon as I saw your email announcement of it. I literally just got my raised beds assembled yesterday, which makes me very happy. However, I was still sad about getting such a late start on the growing season. But I'm thrilled having watched this video now that I know there is still time to grow some of my favorite veggies and expect a harvest before the first frost. Sooooo . . . THANK YOU RICK!
You're Very welcome
Awesome thanks for sharing
You're welcome
Thank you Rick for keeping us up on the timing to plant each month. It's very much appreciated!
You are very welcome
This was very helpful. Thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
My buckwheat only got about 6 inches tall
Also if I’m trellising my squash such as butternut and spaghetti. Is there anything I should be doing when I’m letting them climb. And start making?
Squash need some guidance while they are climbing so be sure to go out and move the vines where you want them every day to keep them growing and spaced well on your trellis.
If I had to re plant my butternut squash and spaghetti squash would it still have a chance to make something before it gets cooler?
It depends on where you live. Spaghetti Squash need 90 to 100 days, butternut need 100-120 days. So it depends on how close your frost is.
You might be able to get a bush acorn 80 days or burpees butterbush 75 days in, like Rick said depending on your frost date.
Just the video I needed! Thanks for the reminder!!
You are so welcome!
I cut the scapes about 4-5 days ago so it's getting close! So excited!
Ours gets pulled at the end of july
Thank you. I missed all kinds of planting deadlines and didn't get much time to take care of my yard this year. I really wanted to plant winter squash so will get started right away. You're a great help! ❤
Hi Rick QUESTION….. im growing in bag pot …. It’s been quite sometime early spring tops are not falling over yet. Still getting a Little new green foliage here or there 🤷♀️ Do I just keep waiting????
